When you walk through the doors of the Napa Humane Spay/Neuter Clinic in the morning, there’s a good chance the first face you’ll see is Gaby Luna, our warm and welcoming Client Services Coordinator.
Since joining the team in November 2023, Gaby has been a driving force behind our front desk operationsāchecking in clients for surgery, managing drop-offs for feral cats, answering phones and voicemails, scheduling appointments, issuing licenses, and sharing vaccine records with pet owners and vet clinics. In her words:
āItās a lot of dutiesābut I love it.ā
And her favorite part?
āI can feel Iām making a difference in peopleās livesāand I get to see all the adorable pets that come in!ā
Gaby has a strong belief in spay/neuterānot just in theory, but in practice. All three of her dogs are fixed, and sheās a proud advocate for the health benefits and community impact of doing so.
āI wish more people understood that spaying and neutering is truly the best thing you can do for your petsāand their health.ā
One success story that stands out to Gaby involves a client who began with just two unfixed female cats he was caring for. As litters of kittens continued to arrive, he made it his mission to bring every single one in for surgeryāover 20 cats in total.
He recognized how quickly the population could spiral and became fully committed to ensuring they were all spayed and neutered.
āHeās so grateful every time he comes in. He clearly loves them, and heās doing the right thing for all of them.ā
Gabyās love for animals doesnāt stop when she leaves workāher home is just
as full of furry (and hoofed) companions.Ā She shares her life with a joyful crew of pets, including her 12-year-old quarter horse, who she affectionately describes as āa pain in the butt but my love.āĀ She is excited to get back in the saddle soon, after taking a break toĀ a welcome a new human family member tooāa beautiful baby girl!
Gaby’s crew of pups include Lyla, her loyal 8-year-old blue heeler; Celeste, a 3-year-old husky/blue heeler mix she adopted as a puppy from the Vallejo shelter, where Gaby was formerly the medical lead; and Cirilo, aka Pulgitas (ālittle tickā), an energetic 8.5-month-old blue heeler/border collie mix who she lovingly calls āthe menace of the three.ā
Gaby grew up surrounded by animals on a ranch, which planted the seed for her career in animal welfare.
āI always wanted to be a vetābut thatās a lot of school for me š . Still, Iāve always loved animals and knew I wanted to be in the field.ā
When asked what animal sheād be, Gaby says:
āDefinitely a horseāso I could just run away from the craziness of life!ā
Despite her many horse-related spills over the years, sheās never broken a boneāa fact that surprises even her.
Whether sheās helping clients navigate their appointments, sharing resources, or just greeting people with a smile, Gaby is a huge part of what makes Napa Humane a warm, welcoming place for animals and the people who love them.
