A gentle soul with endless love and a big Husky heart
Each month, Napa Humane’s calendar highlights a pet whose story reflects the bond between animals and the people who love them. These stories also represent something bigger. Every calendar purchase and contest entry supports Napa Humane’s Power of Prevention our year-round spay and neuter work that keeps pets healthy and at home across Napa County.
Our February calendar star is Starsky, a dog whose sweetness, resilience, and unmistakable Husky personality have left a lasting mark on his family’s lives.
How Starsky Joined the Family
Starsky joined his family in July 2022 after they spotted him through Petfinder and met him at a Beyond Rescue adoption event in San Francisco. They had just returned from a vacation to Europe and were ready to grow their pet family. At the time, they were looking for a Husky or German Shepherd puppy.
As it turns out, Starsky is a little bit of everything. He is about 70 percent Husky, 15 percent German Shepherd, and 15 percent Staffordshire Terrier. Their connection was instant, and from that first meeting on, Starsky was home.
Sweetness, Friendship, and a Very Big Heart
Starsky’s family describes him as the sweetest dog on the planet, and it is hard to argue. A few months after adopting him, they welcomed two cats into the household. Starsky quickly formed close bonds with them, creating a peaceful and affectionate home dynamic that surprised and delighted his humans.
Starsky also loves people. All people. His family is convinced there is not a single person on Earth that Starsky would not happily befriend.
Wind Sprints, Coffee Runs, and Baroos
Starsky’s favorite activities are as big as his personality. He loves going to the dog park, where he plays a game his family calls “running wind sprints.” Fetch is involved, but the return is never guaranteed. Two balls are required at all times, just in case the Husky spirit takes over.
Mornings often include walks to Napa Valley Roasters downtown. Starsky has made quite the impression there, sitting politely by the register, barooing happily, and waiting for treats from the staff who know him well.
At home, Starsky has his own version of relaxation. He enjoys lounging in the family’s potted lime tree, which happens to be planted in a half puncheon. It is his personal retreat.
A Steady Presence Through Life’s Hardest Moments
Starsky has been there for his family through some of their most difficult chapters. He helped them navigate the loss of two beloved older pets, the passing of a parent, and the emotional ups and downs that come with everyday life.
He is always ready to snuggle, always present, and always loving.
When Starsky was still a puppy, he faced a serious medical emergency after ingesting part of an amanita mushroom. His family rushed him to an emergency veterinary hospital in Marin, where doctors followed a specialized treatment protocol. His liver enzyme levels were among the highest they had ever seen in a dog that survived. His resilience and determination amazed everyone who cared for him and reinforced just how special he truly is.
Why Starsky’s Family Supports Napa Humane
Starsky’s family relies on Napa Humane in many ways. Their cats, Baby Gray and Hazelnut, were spayed and neutered at Napa Humane, and they also care for a family of feral cats in their backyard. When they are able to safely trap those cats, Napa Humane provides essential help that supports population control and community health.
They believe Napa Humane plays a vital role in Napa County by offering low-cost, high-quality services that make care more accessible for pet families.
Affordable spay and neuter services help prevent suffering, support responsible pet ownership, and keep pets healthy and at home.
A February Star Who Shines All Year
Starsky is the happiest dog in the world, and his family is grateful for him every single day. Thanks to supporters like you, more pets get the chance to live lives filled with love, care, and joy.
