Meet Nyssa, March’s Calendar Star

Each month, Napa Humane’s calendar celebrates a pet whose story reflects the deep connection between animals and the people who love them. These stories remind us why prevention, access to care, and compassionate support for pet families matter so much in our community.

Our March calendar star is Nyssa, a talkative and loving cat who made sure her presence was always known. Whether she was chatting with her family or settling in for a nap, Nyssa lived life with personality and purpose.

A Surprise Discovery

Nyssa first appeared in an unexpected place. She was found hiding among spa equipment in her family’s backyard, quietly waiting to be discovered.

From that moment forward, she quickly became part of the family. Nyssa had opinions, and she was never shy about sharing them. Her voice and expressive personality made her impossible to ignore and impossible not to love.

The Power of a Simple Toy

Like many cats, Nyssa found joy in the simplest things. One of her favorite toys was a grape stem, which she would happily bat around while chatting about it along the way.

It was a reminder that happiness does not always come from elaborate things. Sometimes the best moments come from curiosity, play, and a little imagination.

Nyssa’s Very Specific Bedtime Rules

Nyssa also had strong preferences when it came to bedtime.

When she slept with her person, she insisted they lie on their right side. If they happened to turn the wrong way, Nyssa had a plan. First came the gentle paw in the ear to encourage a correction. If that did not work, she would simply yell into the ear until the situation was fixed.

In Nyssa’s world, comfort was a team effort.

A Gentle Presence

Nyssa’s impact on her family was simple and profound. Her wishes were often treated as commands, and her presence shaped the rhythm of daily life.

She also welcomed every new cat who joined the household, showing patience and acceptance as the family grew. That calm presence helped create a home where animals could coexist peacefully.

Nyssa sadly passed away in June of this year. While her family still feels that loss, her memory continues to bring smiles and stories that will be shared for years to come.

The love she gave, the conversations she started, and even her bedtime rules remain a meaningful part of her family’s life.

Why Supporting Napa Humane Matters

Nyssa’s family believes that every animal deserves the chance to live a healthy life in a loving home. Programs that help control pet populations and provide access to care play a key role in making that possible.

By supporting services that keep pets healthy and help families care for them, our community creates a better future for animals across Napa County.

Nyssa may be our March calendar star, but her story reflects something many pet families understand. The animals who share our homes shape our routines, make us laugh, and leave lasting memories long after they are gone.

And because of community support, more pets can live those same joyful lives.
