Meet July’s Calendar Pet: Milkdud

Some pets come into our lives exactly as we expect.
Others arrive in ways we never could have imagined.
For Caitlynn, that moment happened at the veterinary clinic where she works. Milkdud had just been delivered by C-section when it became clear something was wrong. Born with a cleft palate, he couldn’t nurse from his mother and needed round-the-clock care to survive.
Without hesitation, Caitlynn took him home.
For the next six weeks, she bottle-fed and tube-fed him every two hours, day and night. It was exhausting, but she never questioned whether he was worth the effort.
Today, Milkdud is thriving.
He goes to work with Caitlynn every day, joins her on dinner outings, loves exploring the yard, and has one especially endearing habit—he still loves to suck on his stuffed animals like they’re his favorite pacifier.
Over the years, Milkdud has undergone multiple surgeries to repair his cleft palate and nose. Through every procedure, Caitlynn says he’s remained incredibly resilient, meeting each new challenge with joy and an unwavering love for life.
“He makes me appreciate the gift of life every day and remember to be grateful for every moment we’ve been given,” she shared.
As a Registered Veterinary Technician and passionate animal advocate, Caitlynn hopes Milkdud’s story inspires others to support shelters and rescues, educate others about the importance of spaying and neutering, and remember that even the smallest act of compassion can change a life forever.
She also hopes Milkdud simply brings people joy.
We think he’s already doing exactly that.
