Meet CAT, August’s Calendar Star

Each year, Napa Humane’s Pet Photo Contest brings our community together to celebrate beloved pets while raising critical funds for our Power of Prevention. The top fundraisers earn a coveted spot in the Napa Humane calendar, and this month, we’re excited to introduce you to one of those stars.
How CAT Found His Forever Home
CAT came into his family’s life in 2023 through a friend who had been caring for him but could no longer continue to do so. He was seven years old and had already lived in two different homes.
After losing their beloved orange tabby, Garfield, in 2021, his new family had been without a cat for the first time in decades. When they were finally ready to welcome another one, CAT came along at just the right time.
He had found his third home, and this one would be forever.
Affection, On His Terms
CAT is loving, but as his family says, it is very much on his terms, something fellow cat people will understand.
One of his sweetest ways of showing affection is to put his nose against his human’s forehead or touch noses with them. Sometimes it is simply a loving gesture. Other times, particularly in the morning, it means breakfast has not yet been served.
CAT enjoys the good life indoors, sleeping wherever he pleases, watching TV with the family, and keeping an eye on the birds in the backyard.
There is just one household rule he has not quite embraced. His family would very much like him to use his scratching posts instead of the carpet.
Love, Patience, and a Fresh Start
Welcoming a seven-year-old cat meant getting to know an animal who already had his own personality, preferences, and habits.
CAT arrived with what his family lovingly describes as a little “attitude,” and building their relationship required patience. Over time, plenty of love and consistency helped CAT settle into his new life and learn that he was home for good.
“We are his forever home and love him to bits,” his family shared.
CAT’s story is a reminder that pets do not have to enter our lives as puppies or kittens to become an irreplaceable part of the family. Sometimes love arrives at seven years old, with a few established opinions and some questionable feelings about scratching posts.
