Meet Hazel, A Quiet Presence with a Regal Spirit

Each month, Napa Humane’s calendar celebrates a pet whose story reflects the bond between animals and the people who love them. These stories also represent something bigger. Every calendar purchase and Pet Photo Contest entry supports Napa Humane’s Power of Prevention, helping fund spay and neuter services and other programs that keep pets healthy and families together.

Our April calendar star is Hazel, a gentle rabbit with a regal presence and a story that shows how patience, care, and love can help even the shyest animals truly shine.

How Hazel Found Her Way Home

Hazel was adopted in 2020 from House Rabbit Society as a companion for another rabbit named Hugh. What began as a search for a friend quickly became something more.

From the start, Hazel carried a quiet energy. She was sweet and observant, taking her time to adjust to her new environment and the people around her.

Hazel has perfected the art of relaxation. She loves to flop down and stretch out in the coziest spots she can find, especially warm sunbeams that drift across the room during the day.

She also shares a special bond with Hugh. The two can often be found snuggled together, enjoying quiet companionship.

A Playful Surprise

While Hazel may appear calm and composed, she has a playful side that keeps her family smiling.

One of her favorite pastimes is jumping into the box where fresh hay is stored. Every now and then, she will pop out unexpectedly, turning a simple moment into a delightful surprise.

A Story of Growth and Trust

When Hazel first came home, she was very shy. Over time, with patience and a loving environment, she began to open up.

Hazel seeks out affection in her own gentle way. She gives nose boops, accepts pets, and will even place her paws on her person’s lap. These small moments are meaningful reminders of how trust is built over time.

Her journey shows that with care and consistency, animals can grow beyond their past and feel safe, secure, and loved.

Hazel did not have an easy start to life. She was found outside, malnourished, and dealing with a medical condition that required care and attention.

Today, those challenges do not define her. Instead, Hazel’s presence is a reminder to meet each moment as it comes and to see individuals for who they are, not just what they have been through.

Why Supporting Napa Humane Matters to Hazel’s family

Hazel’s family supports Napa Humane because of its commitment to accessible care and community support. Affordable spay and neuter services, along with other resources, help strengthen the bond between people and their animals.

These services ensure that more pets receive the care they need and that families have the support to keep their animals healthy and at home.

A Gentle Reminder of What Love Can Do

Hazel’s story is one of quiet transformation. From a shy rabbit to a confident and affectionate companion, she reflects the power of patience, kindness, and a safe environment.

Through Napa Humane’s Power of Prevention, more animals in our community can experience that same opportunity to thrive.
