Meet local pets being rehomed by members of our community
Napa Humane offers this service to help families who can no longer keep their pets find new, loving homes—without the animals having to experience a homeless phase or enter a shelter or temporary housing situation, We understand that there are many personal and often difficult reasons someone may need to rehome a pet. Our goal is to support both people and pets through this transition with compassion and without judgment. Pet’s featured below have been listed courtesy of Napa Humane’s rehoming support.

Adoption Resources
Before you Adopt
Adopting a pet is an exciting and life-changing decision. But before welcoming an animal into your home, it’s important to pause and ensure you’re truly ready for the responsibilities of pet ownership. Our resources, “Is This the Right Time to Adopt?” and “Selecting the Right Pet for My Family,” can help guide you through this important decision-making process.
At Napa Humane, we strongly encourage adopting or rescuing. Every year, approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. shelters, and while many find homes, hundreds of thousands are still at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding and limited resources. Choosing adoption helps save lives and opens space for other animals in need.
Despite what some may believe, you can typically find exactly the kind of pet you’re looking for through rescue/adoption—whether it’s a playful puppy, a mellow senior cat, or a specific breed or temperament. Once you’re confident the timing is right and you have a sense of the kind of pet that fits your lifestyle, you’re ready to begin your search for a lifelong companion.

Tips about finding your pet online
In today’s digital world, it’s easier than ever to start your pet search online—but a picture and a paragraph can only tell you so much.
At Napa Humane, we believe finding the right pet is just as important as the decision to adopt. Online adoption listings are a great starting point—they offer photos and short bios that can help narrow your options—but much like online dating, nothing compares to meeting in person. A real-life interaction gives you a better sense of an animal’s energy, personality, and compatibility with your lifestyle and home.
It’s also important to remember that online pet bios are often written to highlight the positives. For example, “Fido is a loving dog who wants to be with his person at all times and is a great watchdog,” might really mean “Fido has separation anxiety and barks at unfamiliar people.”
This doesn’t mean Fido isn’t a great dog—it just means he may need a specific kind of home or extra support to thrive.
That’s why we always recommend talking directly with shelter staff or rescue volunteers, who often know the animals best. They can offer valuable insight and help ensure you’re choosing a pet that’s a good fit—not just on paper, but in real life.
Online tools can be incredibly helpful, but they’re just one part of the adoption journey. Visiting in person, asking questions, and being honest about your needs will help you find a companion animal who truly belongs in your life—and your heart.
